 One of the first Arab poets to introduce free verse (shi'r al-hurr) into Arabic poetry, breaking away from traditional rhyming schemes. 

 Her pioneering use of modernist themes and experimentation with form and structure reshaped contemporary Arabic poetry.  

Her poetry dealt with themes of alienation, feminism, existentialism, and political oppression. Authored critical essays on poetry, influencing the Arab literary scene.  She was also a professor of Arabic literature, teaching in Iraq, Kuwait, and other countries. 

Recognized as one of the most influential poets in modern Arabic literature. 

Credited with shaping the Arab free verse movement, alongside Badr Shakir al-Sayyab.

 Her poetry continues to be studied in Arabic literary courses worldwide.
